In the extension.art project, we're interested in the outcome of the different languages of art crossing beyond their existing limits, and in their interaction within the adjacent techniques thus formed.
This orientation is reflected in the PROTO exhibition, the contemporary dance programme, and the music programme.
Forward into the future and back to the origins. In the development of the world, by virtue of a circular dependency, these are one and the same thing.
One of the main principles of the Art-Residence project is the juxtaposition of different art genres within one space and within a single span of time. The project does not aim to blend genres, but allows the ideas embedded in a given work to be seen and understood by viewing it from adjacent territory.

Concept

........... The outlines of form limit the object — we cannot and do not want to exist within the boundaries assigned to us: of our own bodies, of national borders, and of social norms. A person can extend their conception of an object through imagination, logic, or laws of nature that resist rational understanding. The need to expand, develop, and extend drives people forward — or, conversely, holds them in place, allowing them, without moving an inch, to overcome any distance through the power of imagination. Traces left along a path already travelled can lead us back to our starting point. It isn't even necessary to cross physical distances, since the traces left in musical notes, in paint on canvas and on walls, in the imprints of bodies in space, expand the limits available to us and send us back to the origins — to what existed before signs, where no outlines or forms existed at all ..........

Extension (Eng.) – Expansion – prolongation – propagation – continuation – extent – enlargement – lengthening – development – prolongation – enlargement – addition; also: branch – prolonging – disconnection – additional term – extension line – linear extension – extended end – installation length – extension tube

In the extension.art project, we're interested in the outcome of the different languages of art crossing beyond their existing limits, and in their interaction within the adjacent techniques thus formed. Forward into the future and back to the origins — in the development of the world, by virtue of a circular dependency, these amount to one and the same thing.

About exhibition

Three Beginnings — beginnings in the most literal sense. The cradle of humanity, the cradle of modern European civilization, the cradle of the human being — the Stone Age, early Christianity, childhood!

The exhibition PROTO works with what happens BEFORE — an opportunity to reflect on the historical origins of the creative process within the context of today's globalized world, where both temporal and spatial distances have contracted, and the limits of the external world have once again become visible in their entirety.

Under these conditions, strategies of artistic interaction can rely not on originality or novelty, but on shared common ground, creating the conditions for a "forced breakthrough" of the real — one tied to purifying language of everything superfluous, of every utopia, every concept, and their negation. The artist's work engages with what lies BEFORE thoughts and conjecture, feeling and sensation, the personal and the shared — while preserving the irreplaceability of the individual that is characteristic of island cultures.

"A Little Geometric Progression," performance, 2010 (25 min)

Music — Fyodor Amirov, Nikita Tikhonov
Painting — Maxim Smirennomudrensky
Dance — Evgenia Sukhareva, Konstantin Grouss
Choreography, composition — Konstantin Grouss (ZERO Dance Gallery)

About performance

Free-flowing movement, bounded by a conditional structure.
Rhythm is born from the relationship between sounds, the proportions of bodies, inner movement, and patches of colour.
The calculation is simple: 1 artist – 2 dancers – 4 synthesizers – 8 corners – …

Each line of the performance — music, painting, dance — is independent. Their interaction gives rise to improvisational, spontaneous, unpredictable compositions. The ending is a surprise even for the participants themselves.

The performance was created specifically for the Extension.art project and is the result of a collaboration between artists working across different fields of art.
